Workshop on food Adulteration

 The PG and Research Department of Chemistry organized a One Day Workshop on Food Adulteration on 22.09.2026 at 1:30 PM in the New Seminar Hall. The workshop was organized with the aim of creating awareness among students on safe food habits and the harmful effects of food adulteration. The programme was organized under the themes “Safe Food, Healthy You, Brighter Future”, “Real food nourishes, adulteration harms”, “Choose safe food, choose a better tomorrow” and “Eat Safe, Live Safe, Stay Healthy”. Dr. H. Kohila Subathra Christy, Head and Associate Professor of Chemistry and Convenor of the workshop, delivered the welcome address. She welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of the workshop and the need for awareness on food adulteration in day-to-day life. Industrial Visit at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant

 An industrial visit to the **Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), Tirunelveli District**, was organized for the students of A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women to provide them with practical exposure to nuclear power generation and its applications. The students visited the **Nuclear Information Centre**, where they gained valuable insights into the principles of nuclear energy, nuclear power generation, radiation safety, and the functioning of a nuclear power plant. The visit helped the students connect their theoretical knowledge of Chemistry and related sciences with real-world industrial applications. The programme was highly informative and educational, enhancing the students’ scientific awareness and understanding of nuclear technology. The visit concluded with a group photograph at the Nuclear Information Centre, marking a memorable and enriching academic experience for the students and faculty.

 The PG & Research Department of Chemistry, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi organized a Career Guidance Programme titled “FROM CLASSROOM TO CAREER: BRIDGING THE GAP”on 13.08.2026 at 2.00 p.m. in Dr. Vasanthi Devi Hall. The programme began with a Welcome Address by Dr. H. Kohila Subathra Christy, Head & Associate Professor of Chemistry. She emphasized the department’s commitment to guiding students beyond academics. The Chief Guest, Ms. S. Kovil Selvi Cilba, alumna of the 2002-2005 batch and currently BT Assistant at Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Pamban, Ramnad District, shared her career journey and motivated students to set clear goals and develop essential skills. An interactive doubt-clearing session was also held. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. S. Sankara Vadivu, Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The programme provided valuable insights on career planning and was well received by students and faculty.

Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi* organized a Video Making Competition on 15.07.2026 in commemoration of the 124th Birth Anniversary of Perunthalaivar K. Kamarajar, celebrated as Educational Development Day. The theme of the competition was “PERUNTHALAIVAR K. KAMARAJAR - THE ARCHITECT OF EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT”. The objective was to create awareness among students about Perunthalaivar K. Kamarajar’s contributions to education and social development. A total of 19 students from the Department of Chemistry participated by creating short videos highlighting his role in promoting education and his vision for educational reforms.  > Industrial Visit to SPIC under LEAP Programme > The PG & Research Department of Chemistry, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, organized an industrial visit to Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Ltd. (SPIC) on December 30, 2025, under the LEAP initiative. Ten final-year M.Sc. Chemistry students, accompanied by Dr.J.Jeyapratha participated in the visit. The programme included an expert technical session on large-scale chemical manufacturing, fertilizer production, industrial safety, and sustainability, followed by practical exposure at the Internal Quality Control Unit and a guided plant tour.
