Sadbhavana Diwas
A Sadbhavana Diwas programme on the theme “Promoting National Integration & Communal Harmony” was organized by the PG & Research Department of Chemistry, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi on 20th August 2026 at 10.00 a.m. in the Auditorium.
The programme began with a Welcome Address by Dr. H. Kohila Subathra Christy, Head and Associate Professor of Chemistry. She welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members and students, and spoke about the significance of observing Sadbhavana Diwas to foster unity, tolerance and communal harmony among people. She emphasized that the college, through such initiatives, strives to inculcate national integration and social responsibility among students.
The Guest Speakers for the programme were Dr. K. Palani, Principal, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi; Dr. A. Maria Shanthi, Head & Associate Professor of Tamil, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi; and Dr. M. Sathick Ali, Dean of Sports and Head, Department of Tamil (Unaided), Sadakathullah Appa College (Autonomous), Tirunelveli.
Dr. K. Palani, in her address, highlighted the importance of Sadbhavana Diwas in remembering the ideals of goodwill and national unity. She urged students to respect all religions and cultures and to work towards strengthening the fabric of unity in diversity that defines our nation.
Dr. A. Maria Shanthi spoke on the role of language, literature and education in promoting communal harmony. She stressed that mutual understanding and empathy are essential to overcome differences and that students must act as ambassadors of peace in their families and communities.
Dr. M. Sathick Ali addressed the gathering on the responsibility of youth in nation building. He emphasized the need to reject hatred and misinformation, especially on social media, and to focus on education, character building and service to society. He called upon students to take a pledge to uphold the values of tolerance, brotherhood and patriotism.
The addresses by the guest speakers inspired the students to reflect on the importance of peace and unity and motivated them to contribute positively to an inclusive and harmonious society.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. D. Shanmuga Priya, Assistant Professor of Chemistry. She expressed sincere gratitude to the Principal, Guest Speakers, faculty members, and students for their presence and cooperation in making the event meaningful and successful. 380 students from various disciplines participated enthusiastically.
The observation of Sadbhavana Diwas provided students with an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the values of national integration and communal harmony and reinforced the college’s dedication to building a united and inclusive society.
