The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1973 offering Pre –University course. In 2013, M.Sc Chemistry course was introduced in unaided stream.

II PG and III UG students went for an industrial visit to DCW, Sahupuram on
29.09.2018. Dr.J. Clara Jeyageetha & Ms.T. Vidhya accompanied the students.
On behalf of Chemistry Association and in connection with the celebraion of National Science day, a collage competition was conducted at 1.30pm on 4th Mach 2020. The topic given was "Women in Science". Ten students from various disciplines participated enthusiastically and showcased their talents. Mrs. S. Kalaiarasi and Dr. J. Clara Jeyageetha judged the collage posters. K. Shanmuga Priya, I B.Sc., Maths won I prize and M. Syed Subahani, I B.Sc., Chemistry won II prize. Dr. H. Kohila Subathra Christry, Head and Assistant Professor of Chemistry has given prizes to the winners.
On behalf of the chemistry association and in connection with the celebration of International Year of the Periodic Table, a Quiz competition was conducted at 2.00 p.m on 20.12.2019.
On behalf of Chemistry Association, a guest lecture was conducted at 11.00 am on 11.02.2020. Dr. Manoharan Ramaswamy, Director,Merck, Pennsylvania, USA, wasthe invited chief guest. Dr. H. Kohila Subathra Christy, Head and Assistant Professor of Chemistry welcomed the gathering. Dr. Manoharan Ramaswamy delivered a special lecture on "Molecule to Medicines". He explained about the normal human cell and its functions, basic principles of DNA structure and its synthesis. He also discussed about te genetic counselling and related ethical practices in clinical genetic situations. Finally He elaborated the four stages of drug delivery. Dr. D. Shanmuga Priya, Assistant Professor of Chemistry proposed vote of thanks.All UG and PG students of Chemistry were benefited.

Dr. Murugesan and Dr. Rajeshwari, Scientist, HWP were also invited. Dr. H. Hohila Subathra Christy, Head and Assistant Professor of Chemistry welcomed the gathering. Dr. Rajamohan delivered a special lecture on "Cooling water treatment programmes in Heavy water plant". Dr. D. Shanmuga Priya, Assistant Professor of Chemistry proposed the formal vote of thanks. All UG and PG students of Chemistry were benefited.
On behalf of the chemistry association, a guest lecture was organised on 03.07.2019. Dr. Chandramouli, Technicial Senior manager Heavy water plant delivered a lecture on “HWP an overview”. Dr. Rajamohan, HWP Thoothukudi explained the internship details for the PG students’ project. Dr. H. Kohila Subathra Christy welcomed and delivered the vote of thanks. All final year UG students and PG students interacted with the resource person effectively.
